Number 38: Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park

We took advantage of the three day weekend (Happy Easter!) to head to some of the state parks that are a long drive from home.  You can't drive through this park, but there are trams that will drop you off at different spots and pick you up for a ride back to your car.

We ended up as far south in Texas as you can go without leaving the country.

Border Paloverde
Everything had a very tropical feel.

Wild Olive
Can't you picture dozens of children climbing on these beauties?

And I got to see more Green Jays!  You may remember that I caught my first glimpse of these gorgeous creatures at   Choke Canyon State Park, but didn't get a good picture to share.  This guy was much more cooperative.  Beautiful, right?

But all the birds we saw were amazing.

Great Kiskadee
This guy definitely took the prize for noisiest bird ever.

I wish I had some "in flight" photographs of this Red Winged Blackbird, but a still will have to do.

Red Winged Blackbird
This tiny bird was only 4" long.  So sweet.

Beardless Tyrannulet
This Golden Fronted Woodpecker is very similar to some we see around our house.

But it wasn't just birds we saw this weekend.  Here is a mouse wandering around looking for scraps.

Not the most impressive animal we saw this weekend, but more on that another day.  Yep, it got a little wild.
