Number 23: Meridian State Park

Today we began what will be an amazing trip through several state parks in a short time.  We started with Meridian State Park, and as is usually the case, it took us by surprise.

There were trails in the prairie.

Flat trails in the trees.

Trails around the lake in the sun.

There were steep trails of rock.

This park had a little of everything you might think you want in a hike, including the views.

And of course there were critters.

Sometimes the trail was thin, and difficult to follow.  Not many people use this one.

When we came out the other side we found ourselves covered in weed seeds.

We could not have asked for more perfect Texas weather in July.  Can you believe we were 106 just a few days ago?

On the adventurous end of things, we stumbled upon a Wake of vultures (yes, a group of vultures is called a Wake).  There were about 30 of them we spooked (or they spooked us) on the trail.

They flew to the other side of the lake were they regrouped and we caught up to them again.  I couldn't fit them all into the picture.

All in all a very nice park.

Tomorrow we hit 3 more.  It's going to be a busy week.
