We have had a lot of rain over the last few weeks. We live near a river and it has been driven out of its banks and into the fields and meadows around us. So many animals had to move out and up and into our neighborhood. Yesterday morning on my way to work I saw coyotes, not chickens, crossing the road. Sorry, I didn't get a picture. But I did get a shot of these guys hanging out by my deer feeder .
Need a better view? How about this one. They are on the run because I stepped on a stick and spooked them so the photo is a bit blurry.
Did you see the mane on the big one? Is it called a mane?
I'm not complaining. I know that the feral hogs are a huge problem in Texas. I have seen the destruction and they are intimidating when they are in a large herd. However, this week they provided a service to me. We have a lot of grubs this year (could this have a connection to the drought?) and the pigs came through our front yard and turned over every grain of dirt and sand under our trees looking for and eating them. It loosened the dirt so much that the weeds are just laying on the ground. Luckily they found all they could eat under the trees and left the grass alone.
Unfortunately I have been having trouble getting any good shots of the deer. I did get this one from my trail camera.
Disregard the date and time. I didn't reset these when I changed the battery.
I need to start putting together a plan for my Spring Break. I am considering making some pillow cases with pretty crochet trim. I got the idea from Yougogirl who did a great tutorial on them. Take a peek and see what you think. Here is her 4 part tutorial.
Week 1
Week2
Week 3
Week 4
That's one option. Any suggestions?

I believe you mean "flock of pigs"
ReplyDeleteGroups are called Swine. Or also a herd, drove, mob, or sounder of pigs or hogs
ReplyDeleteForget this 4 part tutorial nonsense - you and your guests need to get a couple high-powered firearms and start playing a life-size version of a whack-a-mole game with those hogs. I'd suggest that you first check to make sure that you're outside any city limits and that discharging a firearm would be legal. Then get some videos, to post, of Breck out there pretending he's Marlon Brando from Apocalypse Now.
ReplyDelete-- Just a thought.
Ellen, they will always be a flock of pigs to me. You make me laugh. And "anonymous," the gun fire would totally disrupt the peace :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, my dear. What are the odds of getting such great shots on your way out the door to work? Amazing!
ReplyDeleteNice shots, Mom. That trail camera is really awesome, too. That deer has a definite "deer in the headlights" look to it.
